Lexington, Ky. – The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that 1,275 collegiate and high school teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic award for the 2020-21 season and for the sixth time in program history, including three of the last four seasons, the Fordham volleyball program has been honored.
"I strongly believe academics and athletics are mutually beneficial core values," Head coach
Ian Choi said, "I'm proud of our athletes for their dedication, efforts, and time management skills required to receive such high marks. It's certainly not an easy task as a Division I athlete at an academically oriented school."
The award, initiated in 1992-93, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. The program first earned the honor in 2010 and have currently received the award in two consecutive years and three in the last four. The Rams had a combined 3.389 team GPA this past year. On the court, Fordham reached its first Atlantic 10 Championship berth since 2010, as well, despite the shortened season and finished the season with a 5-5 record, 5-3 coming in conference play.
