Men’s Soccer Edged by Marshall in Overtime at NCAA Championship

Max Rogers Scores for Fordham, while Josh Levine Makes Six Saves

Wilson, N.C. – (May 2, 2021) – The Fordham men's soccer team gave everything they could on Sunday in the heat and humidity, but fell short in their second round NCAA Championship match in overtime to #10 Marshall by a score of 2-1.

Fordham took the action right to the Thundering Herd over the first 20 minutes, getting the first corner kick chance and first two shots of the contest.

However, Marshall got the opening goal of the contest in the 25th minute.  Vitor Dias found his way to the endline to the right of the goal and played the ball back to Milo Yosef for the one-timer from nine yards out.  It was his third goal of the season.

The Rams though would find an equalizer just before halftime in the 43rd minute.  Jack Sluys played a long ball forward from just behind the midfield line into the box.  Alberto Pangrazzi won the header to Galen Flynn in the box, who chested the ball forward.  Max Rogers was able to just chip the ball inside the left post for his second goal of the season.

The second half saw Fordham goalkeeper Josh Levine make his mark in the game, denying Marshall a possible go-ahead goal multiple times, highlighted by an 80th minute sliding out save on Vinicius Fernandes.

Fordham almost got the break they needed in the 88th minute on a shot attempt by Galen Flynn that goalkeeper Oliver Semmle just got a fingertip on and went off the right post.  The ball was there for a rebound but the Rams could not get to it.

Levine smothered a save in the final seconds for the Rams, putting the game into overtime.  In overtime, each team had corner kick chances, one of which for Marshall found Pedro Dolabella for a header opportunity but Levine was again there to deny the Thundering Herd.

The Rams' luck ran out in the 97th minute when Yosef netted his second marker of the game off an assist by Jamil Roberts from the near side to the center of the box.

Levine finished the match with six saves for Fordham, while Semmle had only the one stop in the second half.

Fordham ends the season with a 7-1-2 record.
