Bronx, N.Y. - (May 14, 2021) – La Salle's hitting duo of Tatem Levins and Ryan Guckin combined for seven hits and six RBI as the Explorers took down the Fordham Rams, 14-2 in eight innings, to open a four-game series at Houlihan Park.
After La Salle grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first, Fordham knotted the game at one in the second inning on a solo home run to left by
Jason Coules, his first of the season.
The Explorers quickly regained the lead in the third, plating a run on a fielder's choice, while in the fourth, they made it a 3-1 game with an unearned run on a sacrifice fly.
The Rams pulled back within one at 3-2 in the fifth, getting an RBI-single from
Richard Grund, which scored
Zach Selinger from second.
Then in the sixth, Fordham got the tying run, as well as the go-ahead run on base with two outs. However, Tatem Levins threw out
Nick Labella on the back half of a double steal attempt to end the threat. La Salle used that momentum right away, piling on the offense with an eight-run seventh inning to go up 11-2, while netting three runs in the eighth to invoke the run-rule at 14-2.
For Fordham,
Brooks Ey (0-4) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings of work. At the plate, Fordham managed only six hits, two of which came off the bat of
C.J. Vazquez.
The same two teams continue their series with a Saturday doubleheader at noon.
