Baseball Drops Both Ends of Doubleheader at Towson

Former Ram Billy Godrick Connects on Game-Winning Hit in Both Games

Towson, Md. – (April 17, 2021) – With the changes in the weekend schedule, the Fordham baseball team got an unexpected reunion with former Ram Billy Godrick and his new team the Towson Tigers.  Godrick made the most of his opportunity against his former team, recording the game-winning hit in both ends of a doubleheader sweep at Schuerholz Park in Maryland.

In game one, Godrick had the walk-off single with the bases loaded to give Towson a 3-2 win in game one.

Fordham took the initial lead in the third inning, as the Rams loaded the bases on three walks to Chris Genaro, Trey Maeker, and Jason CoulesJake Guercio then grounded into a double play, allowing Genaro to score.

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a Ram error, but Fordham regained the lead in the sixth, as once again three straight walks to Coules, Guercio, and Zach Selinger loaded the bases.  And like the third, it was a double play scored Coules from third.

Towson then knotted the game at two in the bottom of the eighth on another error, and then won the game in the ninth on Godrick's RBI-single with the bases loaded.

Despite drawing eight walks, the Rams struggled at the plate, getting only one hit in the game – a single by Genaro in the top of the seventh inning.

Declan Lavelle (1-2) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on three hits over two innings of relief.  Starter Matt Mikulski went the first four innings in a no-decision, allowing three hits and three walks to go with eight strikeouts.

In game two, it was Godrick again with the big hit, recording the go-ahead RBI-double in the bottom of the seventh in a 5-3 win.

After exchanging single runs in the second inning, Fordham built up a 3-1 lead with single runs in the third and fourth innings.  In the third, Nick Labella singled to left and scored on a double by Andy Semo, while the fourth inning saw Jason Coules single home Will Findlay from second base.

Towson then tied the game at three in the bottom of the fourth, when Brandon Austin hit a two-run home to left.

The score remained that way until the seventh, as Godrick doubled home Jake Laysght for a 4-3 edge.  The Tigers added an insurance run in the eighth for the 5-3 win.

Brooks Ey (0-2) took the loss in relief, allowing one run on two hits in two innings of relief.  Garrett Crowley went the first five innings, allowing three runs on two hits and six walks with five strikeouts.  At the plate, Labella led the charge, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Fordham Rams will look to rebound on Tuesday, April 20th, when they travel to Army West Point for a 3:05 PM start.
