Stony Brook, N.Y. – (March 9, 2021) – Behind a combined eight hits from the bottom third of the order, the Fordham Rams rallied back from a 7-2 deficit to pull off a 9-7 win over the Stony Brook Seawolves at Joe Nathan Field on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, Fordham improved to 4-0 on the season, while Stony Brook fell to 2-4. It is the first 4-0 start for Fordham since the 1988 season.
Stony Brook jetted out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, getting a leadoff home run by John LaRocca and an RBI-double by John Tuccillo.
Fordham got on the board in the second, as
Will Findlay connected on a two-out single and scored on an RBI-double from
Jack Harnisch. The Seawolves then picked up two runs on no hits in the bottom of the frame, building a 4-1 lead.
The Rams cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fourth, getting three straight singles, the last by
Jake Guercio to plate Findlay.
The Seawolves built their lead up to 7-2 by the sixth inning, before Fordham answered with two runs in the seventh.
C.J. Vazquez drew a walk and was followed by a two-run blast over the right field wall by
Casey Brown for his first career home run to make it 7-4.
Fordham's comeback effort continued in the eighth, as the Rams scored twice following a Stony Brook error to pull within one, 7-6.

The Rams completed the comeback in the ninth, scoring three times for a 9-7 lead.
Zach Selinger led off with a single and was pinch run for by
Joe Bladel.
Nick Labella followed with a single to left with Bladel beating the throw to third, sliding in safely.
Andy Semo then laid down a perfect squeeze bunt, allowing Bladel to score and tie the game. One out later, Harnisch connecting on a single up the middle to score Labella for the go-ahead run at 8-7. After Guercio loaded the bases on an infield single, Vazquez fisted an RBI-single to left for an insurance run, scoring Semo from third.
Joseph Quintal came on to close out the game in the ninth. The leadoff man reached base on a walk, but Quintal rebounded with a ground out sandwiched in-between two strikeouts to record his first save of the season and second of his career.
Alex Henderson (1-0) earned the win on relief, allowing one unearned run and one hit over three innings of relief.
Cameron Knox started the contest, throwing the first two innings, followed by
Alex Hernandez with three innings of relief.
At the plate, Harnisch had a career day, going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, recording his first career multi-hit and multi-RBI game. Guercio tied a career-high with three hits to go with a run scored and an RBI, with Findlay going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Rams are right back at it on Wednesday afternoon, when they host Sacred Heart at Houlihan Park, beginning at 2:30 PM.
