Newport News, Va. – For the first time in Fordham volleyball history, a Ram has earned three consecutive Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week awards – outside hitter
Whitley Moody earned her third straight accolade on Monday afternoon, the league office announced, after helping her team to a 2-1 record last week.
The Rams picked up two more victories, a pair of sweeps, to extend a win streak that reached five straight before falling in a five-set thriller on Saturday. Moody finished with 48 kills over the three contests, averaging 4.36 per set, and averaged 4.95 points per set. The San Jose, Calif. native posted 17 kills in a sweep of Rhode Island in midweek, adding nine digs and four blocks, hitting .417, then added 11 kills, seven digs, two blocks, and an ace in a sweep at La Salle on Friday. In the five-set loss to the Explorers on Saturday, Moody recorded a season-high 20 kills on 62 attacks, chipping in nine more digs, two aces, and a block. She hit .269 for the week.
So far this season, through seven matches and 27 sets, Moody is 30
th in the country and second in the Atlantic 10 with 11.81 attacks per set, 38
th and third, respectively, with 4.81 points per set, and 51
st and third with 4.15 kills per set.
The Rams have two more matches in the regular season, both against Rhode Island. First up is a meeting in the Bronx at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24.
