Charlotte, N.C. – The Fordham women's basketball team fell, 77-49, to CAA regular season champion Delaware on Friday in the opening contest of the WNIT Charlotte Region. The loss moves the Rams to 12-5 overall on the year, while the Blue Hens improve to 22-4.
Junior
Megan Jonassen scored a career-high 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting but the rest of the offense struggled, shooting 27.3% from the floor and a season-low three three-pointers. Delaware, who shot 45.2% overall and 43.8% from behind the arc, were led by Jasmine Dickey, who scored 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting. The Rams committed a season-high 22 turnovers but did assist on 15-of-19 field goals in the game.
Kaitlyn Downey hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds, four offensive, to go with nine points, five assists, and two steals, while
Kendell Heremaia was one point and rebound short of a double-double, handing out four dimes and notching one steal.
Anna DeWolfe was held to a season-low nine points. Freshmen
Maranda Nyborg, with four, and
Matilda Flood, with two, combined for six points off the bench. Flood added a block and steal.
The Rams await the loser of Clemson and Ohio in the Consolation bracket at 11 a.m. on Saturday. A win there would put Fordham in the Consolation final on Monday at 4 p.m., while a loss would end the 2020-21 campaign.
