Bronx, N.Y. – (March 14, 2021) – It was looking a bit like déjà vu for the Fordham Rams in the Sunday afternoon baseball game at Houlihan Park. Yesterday, the Rams and Fairleigh Dickinson were tied at two through seven innings and the game went 16 innings. Today, the game again was tied at two after seven. However, Fordham broke through with a four-run eighth inning to take a 6-2 victory from the Knights and win the series.
With the win, Fordham improved to 7-1 on the season, while Fairleigh Dickinson moved to 1-3.
The Rams grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second on a sacrifice fly by
Andy Semo, but the Knights quickly tied the game in the third on an RBI-single by Mike Veit.
Fairleigh Dickinson then took a 2-1 lead in the sixth. With runners at the corners, James Donlon put down a perfect squeeze bunt to plate the runner from third.
Brooks Ey
Fordham battled back to tie the game at two in the bottom of the seventh. With one out,
Colton Snelling doubled to left center, while
Jack Harnisch drew a walk.
Jake Guercio then delivered an RBI-single through the right side to plate Snelling for a 2-2 game.
The Rams followed with a four-run rally in the eighth for a 6-2 lead. With one out,
Jason Coules drew a walk and stole second. After a fly out moved him to third,
Nick Labella snuck a single out of the infield to plate Coules for the go-ahead run. Snelling then had an RBI-single with Guercio connecting on a two-run single to give Fordham a four-run lead.
Alex Henderson (2-0) earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings in relief of starter
Brooks Ey. Ey allowed one earned run over seven innings of work with four strikeouts.
At the plate, Guercio was 3-for-3 with three RBI and a stolen base, while Snelling was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Labella also finished with two hits and an RBI.
The Rams are back in action on Wednesday, March 17
th, when they host Stony Brook at Houlihan Park, beginning at 3:00 PM.
