Brooklyn, N.Y. – The second reading for today's Gaudete Sunday mass urges the reader to have patience much like a farmer, who must wait until his crop "receives the early and the late rains." Fordham men's fans must have that same patience as the Rams are showing signs that they can compete with anyone, taking an ACC school down to the wire today before falling to the University of Miami, 72-66, in the Barclays Center as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 7-5 on the year while Miami improves to 8-3.
Fordham was led by graduate student forward
Chuba Ohams, who scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and added three blocks, while graduate student guard
Darius Quisenberry finished with 13 points and six assists and junior guard
Antonio Daye, Jr., added 12 points and five rebounds.
Neither team held more than a five point lead in the first half and Daye gave the Rams a 37-35 lead at the intermission when he connected on a three just before the buzzer.
The Hurricanes outscored the Rams 20-4 over the first eight minutes of the second half to take their largest lead of the day, 55-41, but Fordham didn't go away, using a 12-2 spurt to cut the Miami lead to four, 57-53, on an
Antrell Charlton jumper with 7:53 remaining.
Miami got the lead back to ten four minutes later, 63-53, but back-to-back
Kam'ron Cunningham threes made it a four-point game again with just over two minutes left but that was as close as the Rams would get.
