Annapolis, Md. – (November 19, 2021) – The top-seeded Fordham water polo team got action underway at the 2021 MAWPC Championship on Friday with a 20-6 quarterfinals win over Mt. St. Mary's at Navy's LeJeune Hall in Annapolis, Maryland.
The Rams blitzed the Mount right out of the game, scoring the first five goals of the game with
Dimitris Koukias and
Lucas Nieto Jasny each scoring twice.
Jacopo Parrella had the remaining first quarter marker for the Rams.
Fordham extended the lead to five by halftime at 9-4, before another five-goal outburst made it 14-5 after three quarters.
The Rams finished the match with a six-goal fourth quarter to secure the 20-6 victory.
For Fordham, Nieto Jasny led all scorers with four goals, while Koukias had three markers.
Christos Loupakis, Parrella,
Nacho Ariste, and
George Papanikolaou each netted two goals in the contest. The remaining tallies came from
Victor Schultz,
Quinn Wagner,
Daniel Lynch,
Mark Katsev, and
Skyler Knoflick. In net,
Thomas Lercari was credited with eight saves over the first three quarters with
Aldo Ordoñez having one in the final quarter.
With the win, Fordham (24-6) moves on to the semifinals on Saturday at 4:30 PM against the winner of Wagner and Bucknell.
