Bronx, N.Y. – (October 9, 2021) – The train known as the 17
th ranked Fordham water polo continued to power through the opposition on Saturday morning as they defeated the George Washington Colonials by a 15-7 score at the Messmore Aquatic Center.
Fordham (16-4, 5-0 MAWPC) started out quickly with a 3-0 lead, as
Skyler Knoflick,
George Papanikolaou, and
Hans Zdolsek each scored within the first four minutes of the contest.
The Rams maintained the three-goal edge at 6-3 to halftime, until they pulled away in the third quarter. Fordham outscored the Colonials 4-0 in the period to go up by a 10-3 and eventually led by ten, 13-3, with 6:10 left in the fourth quarter and never looked back.
For Fordham, Papanikolaou netted a team-high four goals to go with five steals, while Zdolsek posted two goals and five assists.
Lucas Nieto Jasny added three tallies with
Christos Loupakis having two.
Jason Hiremath and
Jacopo Parrella also had a goal and two assists, while Knoflick and
Nacho Ariste closed out the Fordham scoring.
In net,
Bailey O'Mara had seven saves and one steal in three-plus quarters of action, while
Thomas Lercari had one stop in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
The Rams are back in action on Thursday, October 14
th, when they host Iona for a 7:00 PM match.
