Men’s Soccer Travels to URI For Key A-10 Match

Fordham & Rhode Island Set for Saturday Night Showdown

Bronx, N.Y. – (October 15, 2021) – With three games left in conference play, the Fordham men's soccer team has everything right in front of them, as all three contests are against teams that Fordham is currently tied with in the Atlantic 10 standings.  The first of those matches takes place on Saturday, as Fordham travels to Rhode Island for a 7:00 PM match.

Fordham (5-7-1, 3-2 A10) got back on track last weekend with a pair of Atlantic 10 victories over Davidson and George Mason.  Those wins put Fordham in a four-way tie for second place with nine points along with Rhode Island, VCU, and Saint Joseph's.  The offense also got rolling for the Rams, scoring seven goals in those matches with Davidson ad George Mason.

Rhode Island (7-3-1, 3-1 A10) also enters Saturday with wins in its last two Atlantic 10 contests with those coming against St. Bonaventure and Dayton.  Patrick Agyemang leads URI in total points (15) and goals scored (6) and is tied for the team lead in assists (3), while in net Stefan Schmidt has a 0.96 goals against average and four shutouts this season.

The Rams took advantage of set piece opportunities against the Patriots, the first of which came in the 31st minute.  Max Rogers placed a free kick into the center of the box, where Jacob Bohm headed home his first goal of the season from eight yards out for the 1-0 lead.

Then in the second half, it was another set piece that gave Fordham a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute.  Rogers again started the play off, this time on a corner kick, that found the head of Sebastian Fabrin for his first goal of the season.

The Rams' defense did not allow much for George Mason, as the Patriots had just two shots on goal and eight shots overall.  The Patriots did convert on one of those chances, as Balint Kocso scored his third of the season of assists from Jose Alvarado and Linus Dahl in the 70th minute.  However, George Mason would get no closer as they did not have a shot on goal for the rest of the contest.

TO THE MAX: As Fordham hits the stretch run of Atlantic 10 play, one Ram, Max Rogers, has stepped up his play over the last seven contests, totaling three goals and five assists in the span.  He netted goals in three straight games and a point in four straight contests, which was highlighted by his performance against Seton Hall, netting two assists and the game-winning goal in overtime, while registering a pair of assists in the Rams' win over George Mason.

WHO'S NEXT: Fordham will only have one match next week on Saturday, October 23rd, as the squad takes on VCU at 7:00 PM in Richmond, Virginia.
