Bronx, N.Y. – (March 7, 2020) – Fordham's
Matt Tarabek and
Nick Labella each had two hits and two runs scored, while
Matt Mikulski struck out six, as the Fordham baseball team won its sixth straight contest with a 5-1 win over the Iona Gaels at Houlihan Park on Saturday.
With the win, Fordham moves to 7-6 on the year, while Iona fell to 3-9.
Fordham hit the scoreboard right away, netting a 3-0 lead with one run in the first and two in the second.
Matt Tarabek led off the first with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by
Jake Baker.
Jason Coules then doubled to right center to score Tarabek.
In the second,
Nick Labella singled with one out, stole second, and scored on a two-out single by Tarabek through the left side. Baker then reached on an infield single, bringing Coules to the plate, who knocked in his second run of the game with a single to the right side, scoring Tarabek for a 3-0 lead.

The Rams added to the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 5-0 advantage, as Fordham got a run on an error and on a sacrifice fly by Labella.
Fordham's pitching would do the rest, holding Iona to a single run in the seventh inning.
Matt Mikulski (2-1) pitched 5.2 shutout innings, allowing five hits with six strikeouts.
Jack Popolizio gave up a run in 1.1 innings of relief, while
Ben Kovel closed out the game with two scoreless innings.
At the plate, Coules was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, extending his hit streak to ten games, while Labella and Tarabek each had two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.
Alvin Melendez was also 2-for-3 in the game with two doubles and a run scored.
The Rams and Gaels will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday with an 11:00 AM doubleheader.
