Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University Rams opens play at the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championships by taking on the George Washington University Colonials in the Barclays Center on Wednesday, March 11, at 3:30 p.m.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Matt Martucci (play-by-play) and John Feinstein (color) on the call, and broadcast live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and streamed on wfuvsports.org with Dominic Capone (play-by-play) and Andrew Posadas (color) announcing.
Fordham, the 14-seed, enters the game with an 8-22 record, 2-16 in the Atlantic 10, and is coming off a 65-61 A-10 loss to George Mason in the Rose Hill Gym last Saturday. George Washington, the 11-seed, is 12-19 overall on the year, 6-12 in the conference, and is coming off a 76-51 league loss at Dayton on Saturday night.
Wednesday afternoon's contest will be the 38th meeting between Fordham and George Mason on the hardwood. The Colonials lead the all-time series, which started in the 1914-15 season, 28-9. The Rams have won the past three meetings, including a 59-54 win in the Rose Hill Gym on January 22 as
Jalen Cobb scored a game-high 22 points and
Ty Perry added 13, and a 63-52 win on Washington, D.C., on March 4 as
Josh Colon netted 17 points and
Joel Soriano added 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Notes
• After defeating George Washington twice in the regular season, Fordham will be looking to beat a team three times in one season first the first time since 1991.
• In 1991 the Rams knocked off Bucknell three times, including in the first round of the Patriot League Championship.
• Fordham is 0-2 against the Colonials at the Atlantic 10 Championship (most recent meeting was in the first round in 2018, a 78-71 GW win).
• Freshman forward
Joel Soriano is averaging 9.5 ppg and 11.3 rpg over the past ten games.
• Soriano has recorded double-doubles in four of the past five games.
• Junior guard
Josh Colon has scored in double figures in four of last six games, including a season-high 17 points against Saint Joseph's and George Washington.
