Davidson, N.C. - 75 years ago last week, Fordham and Columbia played a basketball game and experimented with a long goal shot (21 feet) that would be worth three points. It would take another 41 years for the NCAA to adopt the shot as part of the game and Davidson is happy they did. The Wildcats connected on 18 long-range shots tonight to defeat Fordham, 79-49, in an Atlantic 10 game in Belk Arena.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 7-16 overall, 1-10 in the Atlantic 10, while Davidson improves to 12-11 overall, 6-5 in the conference.
Freshman guard
Chris Austin led the Rams by tying his career-high with eleven points, connecting on three three-pointers, while freshman forward
Joel Soriano added nine points and nine rebounds.
The Rams jumped out to a 6-3 lead but 19 unanswered points from the Wildcats gave the home team a 22-6 lead with 11:32 left in the half.
