Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University Rams open the 2020-2021 Atlantic 10 season by hosting the George Washington University Colonials in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday, December 30, at 1:00 p.m.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Mike Watts (play-by-play) and Kenny Ducey (color) on the call, and broadcast live on wfuvsports.org with Emmanuel Berbari (play-by-play) and Andrew Posadas (color) announcing.
Fordham enters the game off a 9-22 overall campaign in 2019-20, 2-16 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington enters its conference opener with a 1-6 overall record and is coming off a 66-65 loss to Charlotte in Washington, D.C., on December 22.
Wednesday afternoon's contest will be the 39th meeting between Fordham and George Washington on the hardwood. The Colonials lead the all-time series, which started in the 1914-15 season, 28-10, but the Rams have won the past four meetings, including all three last season. The Rams defeated the Colonials, 59-54, in the Rose Hill Gym on January 22 as
Jalen Cobb scored a game-high 22 points and
Ty Perry added 13, and, 63-52, in Washington, D.C., on March 4 as Josh Colon netted 17 points and
Joel Soriano added 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Fordham then made it three-for-three with a 72-52 win in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the Barclays Center on March 11, behind 14 points and 12 rebounds from
Joel Soriano and 15 points from
Jalen Cobb, which was the final A-10 game played in 2019-2020.
Notes
• The three wins over George Washington last year was the first time Fordham defeated a team three times in one season since the Rams knocked off Bucknell three times in 1991.
• If Fordham wins the Rams would match their longest winning streak against an A-10 opponent (Fordham defeated UMass five straight times prior to last year's Minutemen win).
• Sophomore forward
Joel Soriano recorded a double-double in five of the last six games of 2019-2020.
• Because of COVID delays, the Fordham Rams are one of six teams that have yet to play a game in 2020 (not including Ivy and Patriot League schools).
• The Rams are 76-35 (.685) in season openers since 1908, 81-19 (.810) in home openers.
• One year after having its earliest season opener, the 2020-2021Fordham squad is having its latest opener.
