Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Coasts Past Holy Cross, 5-0

McNamara, Oland Score Two Apiece in Win

Bronx, N.Y. – It's not often that a center back bags a brace, but for the Fordham men's soccer team, both center backs scored twice each in the Rams' 5-0 demolition over Holy Cross at Jack Coffey Field on Saturday evening. The win, the team's first of the year and under new head coach Carlo Acquista, improves the Rams to 1-3-1 overall.

The Rams dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Crusaders, 24-3, including 11-1 shots on goal. The offense could have tallied more if not for opposing keeper Bobby Hurstak and his six saves. Meanwhile, Konstantin Weis was challenged just once, making one save. Fordham also led in corner kicks, 6-1.

The scoring started within 10 minutes as Luke McNamara rifled a 30-yard shot into the lower left corner, his first career goal, assisted by Andron Kagramanyan. The score would remain the same for the remainder of the first half but it didn't take long for Fordham to double its lead once play resumed. Bart Dziedzic played a long cross on a free kick to the far post where it was parried away by Hurstak into the path of Jack Sluys. Sluys fed Joergen Oland, who fired home from point blank range. Two assists were given on the play, which occurred in the 51st minute. 17 minutes later and it was Oland again on the scoresheet, this time from the penalty spot. The senior captain sent Hurstak the wrong way, shooting to the right.

In the 83rd minute, McNamara doubled his tally with a header off a pinpoint cross from Dziedzic. Less than three minutes later and it was Dziedzic this time firing past the keeper from the middle of the box, off the crossbar and into the roof of the net, following a pass from Kristian Shkreli. Dziedzic doubled his career assist total and notched his fifth career goal in the match. For Oland, it was career goals number 13 and 14.

Three yellow cards were issued on the night, two for the Rams – Johanna Pieles and Savvas Christoforou, and one for the Crusaders – Max Krause.

Fordham is back in action this Tuesday night at Clemson. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
