Teaneck, N.J. – (April 23, 2019) – The Fordham offense hit early and often on Tuesday afternoon to kick off a nine-game road swing at Fairleigh Dickinson's Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. The Rams racked up 22 runs on 20 hits, including three home runs, for a 22-10 win over the FDU Knights in eight innings. The game was called due to darkness.
With the win, Fordham improved to 24-18 on the year, while FDU fell to 8-28-1.
Fordham started out the game on fire with five straight hits to open the game eventually leading to a 7-0 lead by the middle of the first. The first run came in on an RBI-double by
Matt Tarabek, which was followed by a two-run home run by
Jake MacKenzie, his third of the season.
Justin Bardwell then doubled and scored on a single by
Jason Coules to make it 4-0. The Rams scored three more times in the inning, highlighted by an RBI-single by
C.J. Vazquez and a sacrifice fly by
Billy Godrick.
The Rams made it 8-0 in the second, when
Jason Coules connected on a solo home run to center, his second of the season.
Fordham tacked on more in the fourth with six runs for a 14-0 lead, highlighted by a two-run single by Tarabek and an RBI-single from
Alvin Melendez.
FDU got on the board with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth, but Fordham answered with four in the top of the fifth to lead, 18-2, capped by a two-run single by Tarabek. Tarabek wasn't done hitting, getting an RBI-double in the seventh for his first career five-hit game to go with six RBI, which made it 19-5.
Casey Brown hit his first career home run on Tuesday.
Fordham wasn't done yet with the offense, as
Casey Brown blasted a three-run home run to right field for his first career home run, making it, 22-7. The Knight scored three times in the bottom of the eighth for the 22-10 final, as the game was called due to darkness.
For Fordham,
Gabe Karslo (2-0) earned the win, allowing two run over the first four innings with two strikeouts.
At the plate, Tarabek had a career day, going 5-for-7 with two doubles, two runs scored, and a career-high six RBI. Coules and Melendez were both 3-for-5 on the afternoon with Coules, Vazquez, and MacKenzie each driving in two runs.
The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Wednesday, April 24
th, when the Rams travel to Saint Peter's for a 3:30 PM game.
