Newport News, Va. –
Bre Cavanaugh has been named the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, along with George Mason's Nicole Cardaño-Hillary, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. It is Cavanaugh's fourth weekly honor this season after earning Rookie of the Week honors four times last year. Cavanaugh was also named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association's Player of the Week, as well. She was named their Rookie of the Year last Spring.
"Bre has put together some very strong offensive games recently. She is playing her best as we had down the stretch." Head coach
Stephanie Gaitley said.
Fordham had just one game this past week but Cavanaugh's performance was enough to secure the award, matching her season-high of 27 points for a third time on 10-of-19 shooting overall, 5-of-10 from behind the three-point arc, and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. The redshirt sophomore added six rebounds, three assists, and a steal across 38 minutes.
Cavanaugh leads the Rams with 16.6 points per game, is second with 6.6 rebounds per game and 27 steals, and is fourth with 66 assists, while playing 38.0 minutes per game, which ranks sixth in the country.
The Rams are back in action Wednesday night in their regular season home finale against Dayton at 7 p.m., the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team.
