College Station, Texas – (February 16, 2019) – Texas A&M starter Asa Lacy struck out 11 batters over five innings, while Will Frizzell drove in five runs, as the Aggies downed the Fordham Rams, 19-6, at Blue Bell Park in College Station, Texas.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 0-2, while Texas A&M improved to 2-0.
Texas A&M got on the board right away, taking advantage of two Fordham errors in the first inning. Bryce Blaum led off with a double to left and scored one out later on an error. After an infield single, the runners advanced on a wild pitch with the throw to third going wide, and allowing a run to score for a 2-0 lead.
The Aggies doubled their lead in the third with two more runs and a 4-0 lead. With the bases loaded and one out, Jonathan Ducoff lined a shot off
Matt Tarabek at third and into left field, which allowed two runs to score.
Fordham then cracked the scoreboard in the fourth inning.
Jake MacKenzie recorded Fordham's first hit of the game on an infield single up the middle. MacKenzie then stole second and scored on an RBI-single by Tarabek, making it a 4-1 score.
Texas A&M responded with the big inning in the bottom of the frame, scoring six runs off the Fordham bullpen for a 10-1 lead. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double by Ducoff and a two-run single by Will Frizzell.
The Aggies increased the lead to 15-1, before the Rams got back in the scoring column in the seventh, when
Jason Coules connected on his first career home run to left center.
Texas A&M finished its scoring with three in the seventh and one in the eighth before Fordham closed out the scoring with four runs in the ninth. The Rams loaded bases in the final inning, getting RBI-singles from
Jack Harnisch and
Terrence Murray, as well as RBI-ground outs by
Nico Doria and
Jake Guercio.
For Fordham, Coules was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored, while Tarabek, Harnisch and Murray each had an RBI-single in the game. Fordham starter
Anthony DiMeglio (0-1) took the loss, allowing two earned runs over three innings of work with four strikeouts.
The two teams will wrap up their three-game series with a 1:00 PM game (12:00 PM local).
