Bre Cavanaugh Named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week

Redshirt Junior Led Rams to Two Wins with Back-to-Back Double-Doubles

Newport News, Va. – The Fordham women's basketball team has is second piece of Atlantic 10 hardware as redshirt junior Bre Cavanaugh was named the Co-Player of the Week, alongside Saint Louis' Ciaja Harbison, the league office announced on Monday. This is her fifth career Player of the Week honor. Cavanaugh averaged a double-double in leading the Rams to wins at Manhattan and over Georgetown at home. 

Cavanaugh was also named the Player of the Week by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) and the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU).
 
"Well-deserved award for Bre after leading us to some big wins this week," Head coach Stephanie Gaitley said, "She has been in the gym a lot to work on her game and it has helped her a great deal. She continues to lead by example and it has paid off for her individually and us as a team!"
 
The Allamuchy, N.J. native was terrific this past week, averaging a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double, with 2.5 steals and 1.0 assists across 39.0 minutes per game, as well. On Thursday in the 51st Battle of the Bronx, Cavanaugh led the Rams to a ninth straight win over the Jaspers with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and two steals. The 12 rebounds matched her career-high for a third time. On Sunday against the Hoyas, she matched her season-high of 23 points on 7-of-17 shooting to go with 10 boards, three steals, and two dimes.
 
Cavanaugh leads the Rams with 16.1 points per game this season with 6.8 rebounds per contest, second-most on the team, and leads the way with 18 steals, as well, with a positive assist/turnover ratio of 1.4 (19/14). Her 39.1 minutes played per game are fourth-most in the country, while she ranks within the top-40, as well, in field goal attempts (13th), three-point attempts (16th), and free throws made (32nd).
 
During the week, Cavanaugh ascended several places in the program record books. She moved up to eighth all-time with 1,320 career points, eighth with 158 three-pointers made, and became the fifth Ram to hit 300 free throws in her career. She is just 156 points away from joining the all-time top-five.
 
Fordham returns to action this Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Southern inside the Rose Hill Gym.
