Volleyball Falls to VCU

Battle of Rams Tilts in VCU's Favor, Fairchild Honored Prematch with 1,000th Kill Ball

Bronx, N.Y. -- The Fordham volleyball team was swept at the hands of first-place VCU on Friday night, 20-25, 19-25, 23-25. With the loss, the host Rams fall to 9-14 overall and 2-9 in Atlantic 10 play, while their rivals improve to 20-5 and 11-0, respectively.

"Have to give gredit to VCU; their athleticism and execution was solid tonight," Head Coach Ian Choi said, "But I'm proud of how the team adhered to the gameplan. We're hoping to carry that level of focus against Davidson tomorrow on a special day for our seniors."

Redshirt junior Olivia Fairchild was honored prematch with a ball commemorating her 1,000th career kill from last month's home opener. Fairchild finished third on the night in kills, with six, and hit a team-high .333, adding two blocks. Senior Elise Benjamin racked up a team-high eight kills and led the defense with a trio of blocks. Also joining her with eight was McKenna Lahr, who added nine digs and a pair of aces. Makaela Tanaka tallied 13 assists, while Megan Brzozowski finished with 12, the former adding eight digs and an ace. Senior Morgan Williams finished with a season-low 10 digs, bringing her career total to 546.

The Rams wrap up play at the Rose Hill Gym for the year with Davidson tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. Five Rams will be honored prematch in the team's annual Senior Day ceremony.
