Bronx, N.Y. – (November 6, 2019) – Yet another chapter in the long-running water polo series between Fordham and Iona was written on Wednesday night in front of a raucous crowd at the Messmore Aquatic Center. In the end, the 16
th-ranked Rams retained the Judge Cup with a 12-8 win over the Gaels.
Since the inception of the Dr. Francis X. Judge Memorial Cup in 2012, Fordham (17-5) has won five of the eight matches against the Gaels for possession of the Cup.
Fordham came out of the gates firing, as the Rams scored the first five goals of the contests and led 6-1 by the end of the first quarter. Four of those six goals came from
Jake Miller-Tolt, while the last two came from
Sam Wheeler and
Sebastian Zapatero.

The Rams maintained that five-goal edge for most of the contest, as Iona only got as close as three at 8-5 with 5:41 left in the third quarter.
For Fordham, Miller-Tolt led the way with five goals and two assists, while
George Maltby had two goals, an assist, and three steals.
Joseph Agabs added a goal, three assists, and two blocks with
Dimitris Koukias,
Phillip Wang, Wheeler and Zapatero rounding out the scoring with one goal each. In net,
Bailey O'Mara totaled nine saves in the win.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on Saturday, November 9
th, as the Rams will play at #19 George Washington at 11:00 AM, followed by a 5:00 PM match at Navy.
