Lewisburg, Pa. – (November 22, 2019) – After a sluggish start, the 16
th-ranked Fordham Rams pulled away from Gannon University in the quarterfinals of the MAWPC Championship with a 16-11 win, held at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
Fordham (24-6) got out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter with goals from
Joseph Agabs and an extra-man goal by
Phillip Wang. Gannon responded with two of their own to knot the game at two before Agabs netted his second goal of the quarter with the man-advantage.
After trading goals in the second quarter, the Rams built up the lead to 7-3 with three straight markers by
Dimitris Koukias to open the third quarter. Gannon got back within two at 7-5, but eventually trailed by three, 9-6, heading into the final quarter.
Jake Miller-Tolt
The Rams poured on the offense with a seven-goal period, which included three tallies by Wang to secure the 16-11 victory.
For Fordham, Koukias tied a career-high with five goals, while
Jake Miller-Tolt netted four goals, six assists, and two steals. Wang also finished with four goals and two assists with Agabs (two goals, five steals) and
Jason Hiremath (1 goal) rounding out the scoring. In net,
Bailey O'Mara racked up seven saves, an assist, and a steal over 3 ½ quarters of action.
The Rams now advance to the MAWPC Championship semifinals to face #18 George Washington at 6:00 PM on Saturday evening.
