Claremont, Calif. – (October 5, 2019) – The Fordham water polo team concluded its west coast swing on Saturday with a 5-1 record, as the Rams fell to ninth-ranked UC San Diego, while defeating Chapman at the Gary Troyer Invitational.
With the split, Fordham is now 15-4 on the season.
In the opening game, Fordham had a rough go against ninth-ranked UC San Diego, falling by a 19-5 score.
The Tritons stormed out with a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back against the Rams. For Fordham,
Jake Miller-Tolt scored twice with
Phillip Wang,
Oscar Nomura, and
Skyler Knoflick having one goal apiece.
Tristen Knoflick also had four steals in the match to go with one assist. In goal,
Bailey O'Mara had nine saves and three steals over the first three quarters with Aldo Ordoñez making one save in the final quarter.
In the final match for Fordham, the Rams took home an 18-10 decision over Chapman. The Rams outscored Chapman, 11-5, over the final two quarters of action to seal away the win.
For the Rams, Miller-Tolt registered seven goals, two assists, two steals, and two blocks with Nomura adding four tallies and an assist. T. Knoflick had a pair of goals and three steals, while
Jason Hiremath notched two goals and an assist. Other goal scorers included Wang,
George Maltby, and
August Weyandt. In goal, O'Mara registered six saves over three and a half quarters with Ordoñez having one in the remaining time.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on Saturday, October 19
th, when the Rams host Navy at 11:00 AM and Princeton at 5:00 PM.
