Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's basketball team finished its final preseason tune-up for the 2019-20 campaign with a defensively stout 57-49 victory over NYIT on Thursday night. Recently named preseason First Team All-Conference member
Bre Cavanaugh led the Rams with 13 points, while the defense tallied 10 steals on the evening.
New York Tech proved a solid test for the hosts, taking a second-half lead, but Fordham rallied with a strong 15-6 fourth quarter to take an eight-point victory heading into its season-opening match-up with perennial national power Notre Dame.
Cavanaugh finished with 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals across 36 minutes. Both
Kendell Heremaia and
Megan Jonassen chipped in 10 points, the latter coming off the bench, with the former leading the team with eight rebounds.
Sarah Karpell finished with nine points, three boards, three assists, and a team-high three steals over 28 minutes.
Anna DeWolfe added six points, three boards, two assists, and two steals over 31 minutes in her debut. Redshirt sophomore
Vilisi Tavui rounded out the starting five, chipping in a point, four offensive rebounds, and an assist across 13 minutes.
Fordham opens up its 2019-20 campaign against #16/14 Notre Dame inside the Rose Hill Gym next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The game will streamed live on ESPN+.
