Women’s Soccer Falls at Dayton

Rams Face Davidson on Sunday with Playoff Berth on the Line

Dayton, Ohio – (October 24, 2019) – Dayton's Jordan Pauley scored twice in the first half, as the Flyers topped the Fordham Rams, 3-0, in an Atlantic 10 women's soccer contest at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio.

With the loss, Fordham remains at 11 points in the Atlantic 10 standings at 3-4-2, while Dayton moved to 17 points at 5-2-2.

The Rams fell behind 1-0 in the ninth minute on a questionable foul in the box, which awarded a penalty kick to Dayton.  Jordan Pauley shot the penalty kick left which Fordham keeper Kelly LaMorte guessed correctly but could not get her glove on the shot, giving Pauley her fourth goal of the season.

Dayton made it 2-0 in the 27th minute, as after a foul call, Pauley lined up a free kick from about 30 yards out and snuck it under the crossbar and just over the outstretched hands of LaMorte for her second goal of the game.

The Flyers then capped the scoring in 74th minute for the 3-0 final, as Landy Mertz netted her third goal of the season.

Fordham finished with 11 shots in the game with Maura Holst leading the way with three, while Juliana Mascelli had two.  In net, LaMorte ended the match with four saves.

Tonight's result now turns Sunday's match into a "win and you're in" situation for both Fordham and Davidson.  Each have 11 points and a win for either squad will clinch a berth in next week's Atlantic 10 Championship.  If the teams tie and finish with 12 points, the Rams and Wildcats will have to wait for other results to determine tiebreaker scenarios.  Sunday's match is set for 1:00 PM at Jack Coffey Field.
