Bronx, N.Y. – (October 19, 2019) - The Fordham water polo squad split a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating #18 Princeton, 11-10, while falling to Navy, 15-12, in the Messmore Aquatics Center.
With the split, Fordham is now 16-5 on the season.
In the opening game of the day, Navy rallied from a two-goal deficit, scoring five times in the fourth quarter to defeat the Rams, 15-12.
Trailing by one after the first quarter, Fordham put together a solid second quarter, netting five goals and taking an 8-6 lead into the half. The two teams matched each other in the third quarter with four goals each, making it a 12-10 game in favor of the Rams. However in the fourth, Navy got a pair of even strength goals, two man-advantage goals, and a penalty shot goal to pull out the 15-12 come-from-behind win.
For Fordham,
Jake Miller-Tolt totaled five goals, three assists, and four steals, while
George Maltby notched three goals and an assist.Â
Oscar Nomura and
Dimitris Koukias added two goals apiece to round out the scoring. In net,
Bailey O'Mara notched seven saves, three of which were with Navy up a man.
In game two, the Rams racked up an 11-10 win over the 18th-ranked Princeton Tigers, behind a monster performance from Miller-Tolt. He netted seven of Fordham's 11 goals, including the eventual game-winner with 2:58 left in the fourth quarter. Fordham was able to hold on defensively, keeping the Tigers off the scoresheet for the final two-plus minutes to record the one-goal win.
Miller-Tolt scored seven of Fordham's 11 goals in the game to go with four steals in the game. Maltby added two goals and a couple of assists with Philip Wang and
Tristen Knoflick having the remaining tallies. In net, O'Mara recorded eight saves and two steals.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on Wednesday, October 23rd, when the Rams host Wagner for an MAWPC East match, starting at 7:30 PM.
