Bronx, N.Y. – (October 17, 2019) – The Fordham women's soccer team put forth a valiant effort against the top team in the Atlantic 10 this season in the Saint Louis Billikens on Thursday night at Jack Coffey Field. The Rams limited the Billikens to just three shots on goal, but an unfortunate bounce in the 35
th minute would give Saint Louis the 1-0 decision over the Rams.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 3-3-1 in the Atlantic 10, 4-9-3 overall, while Saint Louis stayed undefeated in league action at 7-0, and improved to 12-3-1 on the year.
Playing in fairly windy and cold conditions, the teams battled each tough until the scoreless game was broken in the 35
th minute. Alyssa Seitzer made a run down the left side for Saint Louis near the corner flag. Seitzer put a cross toward the front of the goal, which Fordham defender
Hope Baisley attempted to head away. Unfortunately, the direction of the ball changed to the inside and ended up in the Fordham net for an own goal.
Fordham had a chance to knot the game in the second half in the 65
th minute, as the ball bounced off a Saint Louis player to Fordham
Margaret Roughley who made a run into the box for a shot from 12 yards that just went wide of the right post.
That was Fordham best opportunity, as Mary Niehaus was credited with her eighth shutout for the Billikens. Fordham's
Kelly LaMorte had a pair of stops in the loss.
The Fordham Rams are next in action on Sunday, October 20
th, when the team travel to Philadelphia for a conference match with the Saint Joseph's Hawks, beginning at 1:00 PM.
