Men’s Basketball Hosts VCU on Saturday

Rams open 2019 Atlantic 10 season

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University Rams continue the 2018-2019 season, Fordham's 116th varsity season, and open their 2019 Atlantic 10 schedule by hosting the VCU Rams in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Saturday, January 5, at 2:00 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Andrew Bogusch (p-b-p) and Kenny Ducey (color) announcing and broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and www.wfuvsports.org with Raffaele Elia (p-b-p) and Vinny DeBellis (color) announcing.
 
Fordham enters the game with a 9-4 record and is coming off a 60-57 loss to LIU in the Rose Hill Gym last Sunday while VCU is also 9-4 on the season after a 90-79 win over Rider in Richmond last Sunday.
 
Saturday afternoon's contest will be the tenth meeting between Fordham and VCU on the hardwood with VCU leading the all-time series, 8-1. VCU took both of last year's meetings, 76-63, in Richmond on December 30 behind 23 points and 14 rebounds from Justin Tillman and 14 points from De'Riante Jenkins while Will Tavares scored 20 points for Fordham, and 83-58, in the Rose Hill Gym on March 3 behind 18 points and 13 rebounds from Tillman.
 
Notes
• Freshman Nick Honor is seventh in the Atlantic 10 and eighth among all NCAA Div. I freshmen, averaging 17.0 ppg.
 
• Honor has scored in double figures in all 13 games this year.
 
• The Rams lead the Atlantic 10 in scoring margin at +9.2 ppg.
 
• Fordham leads the Atlantic 10 in scoring defense, allowing just 62.7 ppg after giving up 70.3 ppg last year.
 
• The Rams are second in the Atlantic 10 with 9.2 three-pointers made/game.
 
• The Rams will be led by two captains in 2018-2019, senior forward David Pekarek and senior guard Antwon Portley.
 
• Besides eight new freshmen, the Rams also welcome two transfers to the lineup in 2018-2019, Portley (Saint Peter's) and senior Erten Gazi (DePaul). Both sat out last year after transferring to Fordham and each will have another year of eligibility remaining.
 
• Fordham is one of the youngest teams in the NCAA Div. I this year with eight freshmen and two sophomores on the 17-man roster.
 
• The Rams are an international team with five players from foreign countries.
