Bronx, N.Y. – (September 18, 2018) – Scoring late in regulation in each of the last three games, the Fordham men's soccer team's has had its share of good luck recently. However, that luck flipped on Tuesday night, as this time it is was Manhattan scoring with 36 seconds left in regulation to pull out a 1-0 win in the annual Battle of the Bronx at Gaelic Park.
The loss puts Fordham's record at 3-1-2 on the year, while the Jaspers improved to 7-1-0. It marked the first time since 2004 that Manhattan has defeated Fordham in the Battle of the Bronx.
The game was scoreless through the first 89 minutes, primarily due to some extraordinary efforts from Fordham goalkeeper
Rashid Nuhu, as he made multiple "highlight reel" saves to keep the game scoreless with his final one coming in the 89
th minute.
That save to the upper right corner would go over the end line, giving Manhattan a corner kick in the final minute. James Cotter took the corner, finding Adrien Awana for the header and the only goal of the game. It was Awana's fourth of the season.
Nuhu was credited with three saves on the night, while Manhattan's Marcellin Gohier had two saves in the shutout.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, September 21
st, as the Rams will finally have their home opener against the Columbia Lions at Jack Coffey Field, beginning at 7:00 PM.
