Lewisburg, Pa. – (September 16, 2018) – The Fordham water polo team took part in the Bison Invitational this past weekend, posting a 2-2 mark with wins over Mercyhurst and the University of Toronto, while falling to Wagner and 14
th-ranked Bucknell.
With the split of the four matches, Fordham is 4-6 overall, 0-2 in the MAWPC.
In the first match of the weekend on Saturday, Fordham fell to Wagner in its MAWPC opener by a score of 13-4.
The Seahawks got out to a big lead early, scoring the first six goals of the match to open up a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter. Fordham answered with goals by
Tristen Knoflick and
Jake Miller-Tolt to close with a 6-2 deficit by halftime.
However, another quick burst by Wagner to start the third quarter with five consecutive goal s was all the Seahawks would need to post a win over the Rams.
Besides Knoflick and Miller-Tolt, Philip Wang and
August Weyandt had the other two goals for Fordham with Wang also adding a pair of assists. In net,
Patrick Coffey played three-plus quarters making eight saves and one penalty block, while
Bailey O'Mara finished the game.
In match two, the Rams turned the tables with an offensive barrage against Mercyhurst, winning by a 19-3 count.
Fordham got out of the gates quickly, netting six of the first seven goals, which included two from Miller-Tolt and one each from
Joseph Agabs,
Magnus Sims, Wang, and Weyandt.
After Mercyhurst made it, 6-2, the Rams would score the next 12 goals to put the match away by a score of 19-3.
Sims led the way for Fordham, scoring five goals to go with two assists, while Miller-Tolt had three goals and four assists. Wang also added a hat trick with
Diego Delgado dishing out four assists. Other goal scorers included
Gordon Rowland,
Cole Donnelly,
Will Smoot,
Ian Watson,
Yuki Saito, and
George Maltby. In net, Coffey and O'Mara each played two quarters with each making six stops.
On Sunday, the Rams dropped their opening match to #14 Bucknell by a score of 9-7.
The Bison rolled out to a 5-1 lead three minutes into the third quarter, before Fordham rallied within one at 5-4 by the fourth quarter on goals from Watson, Wang, and Miller-Tolt.

Bucknell built the lead back to three goals at 8-5 before a pair of Miller-Tolt goals made it a one-goal game again at 8-7 with 1:25 remaining.
The Bison though would get an extra-man goal with 39 seconds left to pull out the 9-7 win.
For Fordham, Miller-Tolt finished with five goals, an assist, four steals, and three blocks with Wang and Watson each having a goal and an assist. In net, Coffey ended the match with 11 saves.
The final match of the weekend saw Fordham post an 18-3 win over the University of Toronto.
For Fordham, Watson led the goal scoring with three goals, while Saito had two goals and two assists.
Joseph Jellinek, Maltby, Agabs, Miller-Tolt, and
Dimitris Koukias each had two markers with Knoflick,
Sam Wheeler, and Niko Kapetan rounding out the scoring with one goal each. In net, Coffey had four saves over a quarter and a half, while O'Mara had nine stops in two and a half quarters.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on Sunday, September 23
rd, when the Rams host a pair of conference match against George Washington at 10:00 AM and Navy at 3:00 PM.
