Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham softball team wrapped up its three-game sweep of George Mason on Sunday by plating 10 runs for the second consecutive game, defeating the Patriots, 10-2, in six innings. With the win, the Rams improve to 19-17 overall and 8-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while George Mason falls to 11-24 and 2-7, respectively.
The two schools traded one-run half innings until Fordham put up a four-spot in the second to open up the game. George Mason went ahead first with an unearned run via a sacrifice fly and the Rams answered through a
Skylar Johnston solo home run. The Patriots went ahead again in the top of the second on a RBI double by Jess Curbeira with two outs. Fordham responded with two-out rally in the bottom half.
Lauren Quense smacked a double off the left field wall to score
Jordy Storm, who led the frame off with a walk, and
Madie Aughinbaugh followed with a two-run blast to dead center.
Paige Rauch went back-to-back with the sophomore with a no-doubter to right to cap the scoring.
Rauch replaced Aughinbaugh in the circle in the third inning and cruised to her eighth win of the season with four one-hit frames with just one walk and four strikeouts. Bekah Ansbro, who replaced Haellie Gordon in the second, settled in over the next three innings until things unraveled in the sixth.
Rauch led off the sixth with her second solo home run of the day and both
Chelsea Skrepenak and Johnston followed with singles to knock Ansbro out. Madison Larsen replaced her and allowed a two-run single to
Deanna Burbridge with her first pitch. Larsen got two outs between walking Storm and Quense to load the bases and Aughinbaugh came through with the walk-off two-run single to center.
Aughinbaugh, Rauch, and Johnston tallied multi-hit performances, with the latter leading the way with three hits. Aughinbaugh notched a career-best four RBIs, as well. Storm and Quense eached walked twice, the latter matching Johnston's three trips on base.
The Rams are in action on Tuesday at Iona with a 3 p.m. start time before heading to Rhode Island next weekend for three games.
