Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham softball team got back to its winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Binghamton on Thursday evening at Bahoshy Field in nonconference action. The Rams plated runs in three separate innings, led by
Chelsea Skrepenak's 4-for-4 day, and sophomore
Madie Aughinbaugh twirled a three-hit shutout, her fourth of the season. With the result, Fordham improves to 16-17 on the year, while the Bearcats fall to 7-13 overall.
Aughinbaugh took a perfect game into the fourth frame and coasted to her ninth victory with just three singles allowed, no walks, and six punchouts. Skrepenak powered the Rams offense with hits in all four trips to the plate, including the go-ahead run in the third with a triple down the right field line, and the entire squad combined for 11 hits.
All the offense Aughinbaugh would need came in the third when she scored the game's first run on Skrepenak's triple. With one out, Aughinbaugh ripped a single through the left side then came around to score. Skrepenak motored into third as Lauren Martinez's throw sailed out of bounds, allowing Skrepenak to carry on homeward. The third run came the following frame when
Paige Rauch drew a bases loaded walk to score
Deanna Burbridge, who had singled to lead off the inning.
Jordy Storm doubled to deep center and
Brianna Pinto walked to load the bases. Aughinbaugh lined into an inning-ending double play at third as Kate Richard quickly stepped on third to get Storm out. Skrepenak capped her day with a RBI infield single with two outs in the sixth inning to sore Rauch.
Also notching multi-hit games were Burbridge and Storm. Skrepenak upped her season average to an even .400 with today's performance.
The Rams are back in Atlantic 10 action this weekend with a three-game series against George Mason at Bahoshy Field. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at noon, while Sunday's series finale will begin at 1 p.m.
