Atlantic 10 MBB Championship Central
Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's basketball Rams open play at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship by facing the George Washington University Colonials in the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, March 7, at 8:30 p.m.
The game will be streamed live on the Stadium with Matt Martucci (p-b-p) and Tim Welsh (color) announcing and broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and
www.wfuvsports.org with Matt Murphy (p-b-p) and Tom Scibelli (color) announcing.
Fordham enters the game with a 9-21 overall record, 4-14 in the Atlantic 10, after an 83-58 A-10 loss to VCU in the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday afternoon while George Washington is 14-17 overall, 7-11 in the conference, after an 88-78 A-10 loss at Dayton on Saturday.
Wednesday night's contest will be the 33rd meeting between Fordham and George Washington on the hardwood. The Colonials lead the all-time series, which started in the 1914-15 season, 26-6, and have taken the past seven matchups. George Washington won this year's first meeting, 72-56 in the Smith Center last Wednesday as Yuta Watanabe scored a career-high 31 points.
Notes
• Senior guard
Will Tavares, who leads the Rams in scoring (13.6 ppg), has scored in double figures in 22 of his 27 games this year. He is currently 20th in the Atlantic 10 in scoring.
• Tavares does most of his damage in the second half of games where he is averaging 9.1 ppg (compared to 4.5 in the first half).
• Sophomore guard
Cavit Havsa is averaging 7.9 ppg and 2.2 rpg over the past nine games, shooting .543 (31-57) from the field. He has also dished out 49 assists, including a career-high eight in the win over George Mason and the loss to Saint Joseph's, with just 22 turnovers, over that stretch.
• Junior guard
Joseph Chartouny leads the NCAA this year in steals/game with 3.32.
• Chartouny has 93 steals this year, one shy of his school record of 94 set last year.
• Chartouny has 243 career steals, good for third place on the Fordham all-time list.
• Chartouny has 431 career helpers, fifth-best in school history.
• Chartouny is one of three Atlantic 10 players to rank in the top 25 in assists, steals and rebounds, joining Davidson's Jon Axel Gudmundsson and Saint Louis' Jordan Goodwin.
• Fordham also leads the league, and is sixth in the nation, in steals with 274 (9.1/game).
