Dayton, Ohio – The Fordham softball team completed a three-game series sweep on the road at Dayton on Sunday with a 16-5 five-inning win. The Rams have won five straight and six of their last seven to improve to 12-15 overall, while beginning Atlantic 10 action with a 3-0 record.
Paige Rauch and
Chelsea Skrepenak combined to go 7-for-10 at the top two spots in the order and
Maria Trivelpiece drove in a career-high six teammates in the rout.
Madie Aughinbaugh picked up her sixth straight win, as well, with 4.2 innings of one-run ball in relief.
Rauch reached on an error to start the game and Skrepenak singled to third.
Madi Shaw drew a walk two batters later and another error on a groundball off the bat of
Kylie Michael led to Rauch scoring. Skrepenak and Shaw came around to score on a Trivelpiece single to centerfield and the latter two followed them on an Aughinbaugh double down the left field line. The Flyers responded with four runs in the bottom of the first against
Lauren Quense, who recorded just one out in the frame before giving way to Aughinbaugh. The sophomore allowed just a RBI single but two more runs crossed on an error by Shaw at short.
The Rams offense didn't slow down, though, and plated five more in the second. Skrepenak blasted her second home run in as many games to straightaway center to score Rauch for two runs then Trivelpiece came through again with another single to center to score Shaw, who had been hit by a pitch in her at bat, the first of three straight for the senior from that point on.
Deanna Burbridge provided two more runs with a single to left with the bases loaded and two outs.
Fordham finished the game by scoring two runs in the final three innings. In the third,
Skylar Johnston singled in Skrepenak and Trivelpiece walked with the bases loaded to notch her fourth RBI of the day. Rauch and Skrepenak singled to start the fourth frame and another Shaw hit-by-pitch loaded the bases once more. With two outs, Trivelpiece's grounder got away from the second basemen and two players scored. Rauch put the cherry on top with a two-run home run, her sixth of the season, to score herself and
Brianna Pinto, who was pinch running for
Jordy Storm.
Fordham is back in action on Wednesday with a one-off road contest at Hofstra, set for 3 p.m., and will then head down to Saint Joseph's next weekend for a three-game series.
