Bre Cavanaugh Named A-10 Co-Player of the Week

Redshirt Sophomore Averaged 17.0 Points, 9.0 Rebounds as Holiday Classic MVP

Newport News, Va. – A day after earning herself Fordham Holiday Classic MVP honors, redshirt sophomore Bre Cavanaugh was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, sharing the accolade with Massachusetts' Jessica George. Saint Louis' Brooke Flowers was named Rookie of the Week. This is Cavanaugh's second Player of the Week award this season after earning Rookie honors four times a year ago.

"Bre played a major role in helping us beat two very good teams this weekend," Head coach Stephanie Gaitley said, "When your team has success, individual honors will follow. Well deserved!"

Cavanaugh averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals while playing all 85 minutes over the weekend en route to MVP honors. The Allamuchy, N.J. native matched her season-high of 27 points on Saturday against Maine, shooting 10-of-22 from the floor, including a season-best five three-pointers, to go with eight rebounds and three assists in the overtime victory. She scored the first five points of the overtime period.

Against Middle Tennessee State, Cavavnaugh failed to reach double-digit points for the first time all season but made up for it with team-highs of 10 rebounds, four steals, and a block, while also adding three more dimes across 40 minutes of action. It was the fourth time this year with double-digit rebounds.

For the year, Cavanaugh is averaging 18.5 points, second in the Atlantic 10, with 6.9 rebounds, plus 31 assists and a team-high 17 steals across 38.4 minutes. She is up to 837 career points already.

Freshman Kaitlyn Downey was named to the weekly Atlantic 10 honor roll after averaging 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists across 20.5 minutes in two starts. Downey shot 50.0% from the floor, including 42.9% from three-point range, and consistently came down with clutch offensive boards as all seven of her rebounds this weekend came on that end, including at the end of regulation against Maine when her lay-up with two seconds left tied the game up at 61.

Fordham is back in action this weekend with the start of conference play, traveling down to reigning A-10 champion George Washington for a Saturday matinee. The game, with a tip-off of 11 a.m., will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network, the first of four nationally televised games for the Rams over the next five weeks.
