Bronx, N.Y. – (November 18, 2018) - Behind 12 saves from Cameron Woldt and four goals by Jasmin Kolasinac, the third-seeded Wagner Seahawks topped the fourth-seeded Fordham Rams, 10-6, in the third place game at the 2018 MAWPC Championship, held at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center on Sunday.
After exchanging goals to start the match, Wagner scored four consecutive times to open up a 5-1 lead early in the second quarter.
Dimitris Koukias and
Tristen Knoflick got Fordham back in the game, as each scored a man-up goal to close the deficit to two at 5-3 in the third.
The Seahawks though regained the momentum with another four-goal run to extend the lead to 9-3 with 6:41 left in the match.
The Rams attempted a late rally with two goals by
Magnus Sims and one from Koukias, but the Wagner lead was too large to overcome.
2018 MAWPC Championship Award Winners from Fordham
For Fordham, Koukias and Sims each had two goals with Knoflick and
Samuel Varshisky having the other two goals. In net,
Patrick Coffey made eight stops, including a penalty block.
Following the conclusion of the tournament,
Jake Miller-Tolt (First Team) and
Ian Watson (Second Team) were selected to the All-Championship Team, while coach
Bill Harris received Coach of the Tournament honors.
The loss ends Fordham's season with a 16-16 record.
