Claremont, Calif. – (October 5, 2018) – The Fordham water polo team started the four-game Gary Troyer Tournament on Friday afternoon in Claremont, California. The Rams won their opening match against Occidental, 13-8, while the team's second match was a 13-8 loss to Whittier, who is receiving votes in the Top 20 national poll.
Fordham is now 6-10 on the season.
Against Occidental, the Rams came out firing with a five-goal first quarter, which set Fordham up with a 5-1 lead. The Rams made that early advantage hold up, adding to the lead in the third quarter, and winning the game by five.
For Fordham,
Ian Watson did the most damage, netting four goals and a pair of steals, while
Jake Miller-Tolt had two goals, three assists and three steals.
Tristen Knoflick added two goals and three steals, with
Dimitris Koukias,
Phillip Wang,
Magnus Sims,
Yuki Saito and
George Maltby rounding out the scoring with a goal each. In net,
Patrick Coffey and
Bailey O'Mara each played a half with Coffey having four saves and an assist with O'Mara posting six stops.

In game two, Whittier built up a 7-4 lead by halftime, before the Rams closed the gap to two at 10-8 by the end of the third. However, Whittier outscored the Rams by three in the fourth quarter for the 13-8 final.
The Rams were led by Sims, who had three goals with Koukias adding a pair. Miller-Tolt finished with a goal, three assists, and five steals, with Watson and Maltby having the final two goals. In net, Coffey ended the game with six saves over 2-plus quarters with O'Mara having one in the final quarter-plus.
The Rams are next in action on Saturday, October 6
th, when they wrap up action at the Gary Troyer Tournament, taking on Cal Lutheran at 1:20 PM and #14 Cal Baptist at 6:40 PM.
