Men’s Soccer Hosts Dayton for Senior Night

Rams & Flyers Wrap Up Regular Season on Wednesday with Seeding & Playoff Berth on the Line

Bronx, N.Y. – (October 30, 2018) – The final regular season men's soccer match for the Fordham Rams still has plenty of meaning on Wednesday night at Jack Coffey Field, as the Rams host the Dayton Flyers at 7:00 PM.  It will be Senior Night for Fordham, as the Rams will honor its senior class prior to the game, plus the Rams are still fighting for a top-four seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship and host a quarterfinal match.

Fordham (8-3-4, 4-2-1) punched its ticket into the Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday with a 3-0 win at La Salle.  Janos Loebe had a big day for the Rams, netting two goals and an assist for his second career five-point game, while Sameer Fathazada added a goal and an assist in the contest.  The Rams are tied for third in the Atlantic 10 standings with Davidson.

Dayton (7-5-4, 3-3-1) has rallied back from a 0-3-1 start to conference play with three consecutive wins to put them in seventh position in the standings.  The Flyers still need points to secure their spot in the championship or get help from other results in the league.  Offensively, Jonas Fjeldberg leads the squad with a team-high four goals and nine points.  In goal, Federico Barrios has played the majority of the minutes, recording a 0.81 goals against average and seven shutouts.

MOVIN' UP: As the season rolls on, Fordham seniors Janos Loebe and Rashid Nuhu continue their upward climb in the all-time Fordham record book.  With two goals and an assist at La Salle, Loebe is tied for sixth in career goals with 26, while his 83 points are now fourth on the career points list, passing Brian Borrhello (82 – 1999-2002) and Ifeatu Oute (78 - 1970-72).  He is also second in career assists with 31, trailing only John Wolyniec (34 – 1995-98) and ranks tied for fourth in games played (77), and tied for fifth in games started (76).

Fordham then capped the win in the 90th minute, as the Rams were awarded a penalty kick after a foul on Johannes Pieles in the box.  Loebe then stepped to the penalty spot and scored his second goal of the game and seventh of the year and the 3-0 win.
