Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's basketball Rams continue their 2017-2018 Atlantic 10 season, the 115th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by hosting the #24/23 University of Rhode Island Rams in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday, January 24, at 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday's game will be streamed live on STADIUM's Facebook Live channel which is free and available on desktop and mobile devices. Jason Knapp will call the action alongside Mo Cassara (analyst) and Kristen Balboni (sideline). The production will not take commercial breaks but instead interacts with fans through social media by answering questions and comments as the game goes on.
The game will also be broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and
www.wfuvsports.org with Matt Murphy (p-b-p) and Tom Scibelli (color) announcing.
Fordham enters the game with a 6-13 overall record, 1-6 in the Atlantic 10, after a 68-46 A-10 loss at Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon while Rhode Island is 15-3 overall, 7-0 in the conference, after an 88-74 A-10 win at Dayton on Saturday.
Wednesday night's contest will be the 66th meeting between Fordham and Rhode Island on the hardwood with Rhode Island leading the all-time series, which started in the 1941-42 season, 37-28. Fordham won last year's meeting, 53-43, in Kingston on February 15 as
Javontae Hawkins scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Chris Sengfelder added 17 points and 13 boards.
Notes
• The game will be the first for the Rams against a ranked team in the Rose Hill Gym since a contest with then 11th-ranked Butler on February 16, 2013.
• Senior guard
Will Tavares, who leads the Rams in scoring (14.4 ppg), has scored in double figures in 15 of his 18 games this year. He is currently 20th in the Atlantic 10 in scoring.
• Junior guard
Joseph Chartouny leads the NCAA this year in steals/game with 3.42.
• Chartouny has 215 career steals, good for fifth on the Fordham all-time list.
• Chartouny has 388 career helpers, sixth-best in school history.
• Chartouny is one of three Atlantic 10 players to rank in the top 20 in assists, steals and rebounds, joining Davidson's Jon Axel Gudmundsson and Saint Louis' Jordan Goodwin.
• Fordham also leads the league, and is fifth in the nation, in steals with 185 (9.7/game).
