Richmond, Va. – The Fordham volleyball team reached the culmination of its prolonged eight-match road swing on Sunday afternoon, falling to the current Atlantic 10 leaders VCU in straight sets. With the loss, Fordham falls to 8-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while the (other) Rams improve to 15-2 and 2-0 overall.
Â
The Rams battled their counterparts, like their Friday match-up at Davidson, in the first two sets, dropping close 25-22 and 26-24 sets, before the hosts coasted to a 25-16 third-set victory to seal the win. It is Fordham's third straight loss since a sweep of St. Francis Brooklyn last weekend.
Â
For the second straight match, sophomore
Kaitlin Morley led the team with 13 kills, doing so at an efficient .333 clip, adding 11 digs, which was a team-lead shared with sophomore libero
Morgan Williams. Morley also served up two aces, giving her 10 on the year and the team 110 total. Also for the second consecutive contest was team kills leader
Olivia Fairchild failing to reach the double-digit mark, matching a career-low with five kills on 19 total attacks, but also chipping in nine digs and two blocks. It's the first time in Fairchild's career she's recorded below 10 kills in back-to-back contests.
Â
Freshman
McKenna Lahr notched eight kills, while both
Olivia LaPorta and
Nicole Freeley each recorded three, the former leading the squad with three blocks, the fourth straight match that the junior has blocked three attempts.

Fordham returns home for four A-10 matches, first against George Mason on Friday night, September 29, at 7 p.m. That match will be streamed live on the A-10 Digital Network.
