Volleyball Finishes New Orleans Invitational with Sweep of Alcorn State

Rams Open Season at 3-0 for First Time Since 2010

New Orleans, La. – The Fordham volleyball team completed a superb opening weekend at the New Orleans Invitational on Saturday, as the Rams swept Alcorn State, 3-0.  Set scores were 25-10, 25-13, and 25-12.
 
With the win, Fordham improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2010, while Alcorn State fell to 0-3.
 
Fordham came out swinging from the get go, scoring the first 11 points of the first set on seven kills and four service aces.  That set the tone for the opening stanza, as the Rams hit .400 for the set with only one error in a 25-10 win.
 
The second set Fordham took advantage of a poor hitting performance by Alcorn State, as the Braves hit -.182 with eight errors and leading to a 25-13 win.
 
The Rams then finished off the Braves with a .667 hitting performance in set #3, led by Kaitlin Morley, who had five of the 14 kills in the set in five attempts.

For Fordham, Olivia Fairchild registered a team-high 11 kills with three digs, while Breanna Jones had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.  Maddy Walsh dished out 25 assists to go with five kills, seven digs, and a pair of aces with McKenna Lahr adding four aces, six digs, and three kills.  Defensively, Morgan Williams had a match-high 13 digs to go with two assists and two aces.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, Fairchild and Lahr were both selected to the All-Tournament Team.
 
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Wednesday, August 30th, when the Rams travel to Manhattan College for a 7:00 PM start at Draddy Gymnasium.
