Orlando, Fla. – The Fordham softball team capped off its annual trip to Orlando for the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic on Sunday with a 7-0 win over Georgia Southern. The Rams improved to 10-4 with the result, while the Eagles fell to 6-8 overall.
Â
Lauren Quense made her ninth start of the year and picked up her eighth victory, tossing five one-hit innings with just one walk allowed and six strikeouts. Freshman
Taylor Stocks completed the joint shutout with two one-innings of her own.
Â
The Rams got all the offense it would need on two unearned runs in the second inning. RALEY was lifted with one out in the frame for FELT, who walked both
Morgan Figueroa and
Jessica Hughes with two outs to load the bases, joining Quense, who had also walked in the inning.
Amy Van Hoven's grounder was misplayed by the shortstop, allowing Figueroa and Quense to score, but Hughes was thrown out at home to end the frame. Fordham tacked on two more in the fourth on a sac fly off the bat of Van Hoven, scoring Figueroa, and another fielding error, scoring Hughes, who had doubled earlier in the frame.
Â
The Rams rounded out their scoring with three runs in the sixth all with one out. Van Hoven walked, Canessa singled, and
Skylar Johnston walked to load the bases.
Madison Shaw singled to third to move all runners over and then
Lindsay Mayer ripped a single to left center to score two.
