Annapolis, Md. – The Fordham water polo team began its 2016 season on Saturday at the annual Navy Labor Day Open in Annapolis, Maryland. On the opening day, the Rams split a pair of match-ups, falling to 11
th-ranked Princeton, 17-10, while defeating La Salle, 23-5.
In the opening contest, Princeton jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter, and increased the lead to five, 8-3, by halftime.
Fordham remained five back, 12-7, after three quarters, but the Rams were outscored, 5-3, in the final frame to give Princeton the 17-10 victory.
For Fordham, nine different Rams scored with
J.J. Meador being the only multi-goal scorer.

Magnus Sims,
R.J. Simmons,
Cameron Shewchuck, and
Tristen Knoflick.

In goal, Fordham's
Alex Jahns played into the third quarter, registering eight saves and allowing 15 goals.
Patrick Coffey also saw action in the fourth quarter, giving up a pair of goals.
In game two, Fordham took on La Salle, posting a 23-5 victory. The Rams pulled out all of the stops in the first quarter, scoring ten times and not allowing a goal for a 10-0 lead. Fordham scored five times in both the second and third frame, and capped the night with a three goal outburst.
For the Rams,
Ian Watson netted three goals, four steals, and added an assist, while seven other players had two goals each, including
Jake Miller-Tolt, Knoflick, Shewchuk, Simmons, Varshisky,
George Maltby, and Meador.
In goal, Jahns got the start, making one save in one quarter of action, while Coffey played the final three quarters, making 11 stops to go with a steal and an assist.
The Rams wrap up play at the Labor Day Open on Sunday with matches against Gannon at 10:00 AM and McKendree at 2:40 PM.
