Baltimore, Md./Washington, D.C. – The Fordham water polo team opened play in the newly formed Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference of the CWPA on Saturday with a pair of East Division match-ups. First, the Rams started with a win over John Hopkins, 8-7, while falling to 16
th-ranked George Washington later in the day, 18-6.
With the split, Fordham moves to 4-5 on the year, 1-1 in the conference.
Using some strong defense, Fordham opened Saturday with a tight victory at Johns Hopkins by a score of 8-7.
The score was knotted at four at halftime, before Fordham rallied for three goals in the third quarter to take a 7-6 lead. After exchanging goals to start the third, the Rams got goals from
Magnus Sims and
Jake Miller-Tolt to take a two-goal lead, before Johns Hopkins scored the final goal of the period.
Fordham re-gained a two-goal edge with a marker by
Ian Watson, which was enough as Fordham held on for the 8-7 win.

For Fordham, Miller-Tolt,
R.J. Simmons, Sims, and Watson each had two goals each, while in net,
Alex Jahns made 10 saves. Sims also added two assists and five steals, while Miller-Tolt also had a pair of assists and four steals.
In game two Saturday, an early Fordham lead quickly evaporated in an 18-6 loss to the #16 George Washington Colonials.
Fordham had a 2-1 lead after the first quarter on goals from Simmons and Sims. From there thought, the Colonials dominated the action, outscoring Fordham, 17-4, over the final three periods for the win.
For Fordham, Simmons and Sims each had two goals in the game, while Miller-Tolt and Sam Varshisky had the final two markers.
The Fordham water polo team wraps up this weekend's action on Sunday at Navy, beginning at 2:00 PM.
