Men’s Soccer Takes on Manhattan in the Battle of the Bronx on Wednesday

Rams Look To Get Back on Track Against the Jaspers

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham men's soccer team will look to get back on track on Wednesday night, when the Rams travel across the Bronx to face the Manhattan College Jaspers at Gaelic Park in the Battle of the Bronx.  Game time is set for 7:00 PM.

Fordham (1-3-1) fell to Lafayette by a score of 3-1 this past Friday, giving the Leopards their first win of the season.  The Rams hope to not duplicate that on Wednesday, as Manhattan has yet to win a game this season (0-4-0).

SERIES HISTORY: Since 1985, Fordham is 20-7-1 against the Jaspers, but the two teams did not play each other last season.  The last meeting was in 2014, a 3-1 decision in favor of the Rams.  Prior to that, Fordham had recorded nine consecutive shutouts, going 8-0-1 in those games.

LAST TIME OUT: With the score knotted at one, Lafayette's Evan Vare scored twice in the second half to lead the Leopards to a 3-1 victory over the Fordham Rams at Jack Coffey Field.

Lafayette struck first in the 40th minute, as off a missed clearance by Fordham, Joe DeStefano scored on a shot from 16 yards out for his first goal of the season.

The score remained that way until the 56th minute, when Fordham tied the game at one.  Jannik Loebe was able to get a pass to Dantae Greer inside the box, where Greer turned and fired from 17 yards out, past the outstretched goalkeeper's hands for his first collegiate goal.

However, the game would not stay tied for long, as Lafayette scored four minutes later to re-gain a one-goal edge.  Evan Vare went in on a breakaway after a stretch pass and deflection, and beat Fordham goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu to the lower left side of goal for his first of the year.

Vare would strike again in the 85th minute to seal the 3-1 victory for the Leopards, as he scored from 18 yards out off a pass from Dylan Royalty.

WHO'S NEXT: Following the Battle of the Bronx, the Rams travel to DeLand, Florida for a game at Stetson University on Saturday, September 17th at 7:00 PM.
