Princeton, N.J. - After a 3-1 start to the season, the Fordham water polo team had a stiff challenge in front of them this weekend at the Princeton Invitational. The Rams faced off against three nationally ranked opponents in #17 Cal Baptist, #20 Santa Clara, and #12 Harvard.
On Saturday, the Rams fell to #17 Cal Baptist by a 14-7 score.
Cal Baptist struck early and often, posting a 5-2 lead after the first quarter. The Lancer defense then took charge over the next two periods, allowing just two goals, and extending the lead to 12-4, and eventually taking the match, 14-7.
For Fordham,
Jake Miller-Tolt netted a team-high four goals to go with an assist, while
Cameron Shewchuck added a pair of markers.
Magnus Sims rounded out the scoring with a goal and three steals. In goal,
Alex Jahns and
Patrick Coffey split time in goal with Coffey making eight stops.
Sunday's action started with a close loss to #20 Santa Clara, 10-8.
Fordham opened with a 2-1 lead after the first, but the Broncos knotted the game at three by halftime. Both teams netted four goals in the third, but it was Santa Clara with the 3-1 edge in the final quarter to come away with the 10-8 win.

Miller-Tolt continued his strong play on the weekend with three goals, two assists, and four steals in the game.
R.J. Simmons added a pair of markers and two steals, with
Joseph Agabs,
Diego Delgado, and
Ian Watson finishing out the scoring with a goal apiece. In goal, Jahns posted eight stops to go with a steal.
After the hard fought match with Santa Clara, the Rams had a rough go against #12 Harvard, falling by a 15-4 count.
After trailing by two after the first quarter by a 4-2 score, Fordham could not break through the Crimson defense, scoring only two more times in the match.
Miller-Tolt netted a goal and three steals in the game, while Shewchuck and
Tristen Knoflick each had a goal and a steal.
J.J. Meador had the final goal for the Rams.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on September 24
th, when the Rams start conference action at Johns Hopkins at 3:30 PM and George Washington at 8:00 PM.
