Baltimore, Md. – Behind a late goal from
Cole Stevenson, the Fordham men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the UMBC Retrievers on Friday night to open its 2016 season at Retriever Soccer Park.

Fordham controlled a good portion of the play in the opening half.  The Rams outshot UMBC, 7-2, with
Patrick Thees,
Eric Ohlendorf, and
Janos Loebe all having excellent scoring chances, which were denied by Retriever goalkeeper Billy Heavner.

UMBC then asserted itself in the second stanza, netting the opening goal of the game in the 51
st minute.  Off a deflection in the box, the ball came out to Patrick Jean-Gilles near top of box on the right side.  Jean-Gilles then picked the top left corner from 16 yards out for his first goal of the season.

The score stayed that way until the 84
th minute, when Stevenson answered for Fordham.
Jannik Loebe played a cross from the right side of the box that found a sliding Stevenson, right in front of goal for the equalizer.

Neither team could muster much in overtime on a hot and steamy night in Baltimore.  However, UMBC did have one scoring chance in the waning minute off the foot of Kyle Saunderson, but Fordham goalkeeper
Rashid Nuhu was able to smother the ball for the save and the 1-1 tie.

In net, Nuhu and Heavner each had four saves on the night.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, August 28
th, when the Rams play at Delaware, beginning at noon.
