Follow on Twitter Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's basketball Rams continue their 2016 Atlantic 10 season, the 113th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by hosting the University of Rhode Island Rams in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Saturday, March 5, at 2:00 PM.
The game will be presented by Montefiore who is also sponsoring a special Ram Bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,000 fans through the door.
The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network with Andrew Bogusch (play-by-play) and Darwin Zook (color) announcing and can also be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on www.wfuvsports.org with Matt Moro (p-b-p) and Matt Murphy (color) announcing. Follow the links above.
Prior to the game three Fordham seniors will be honors:
Ryan Canty,
Mandell Thomas and
Ryan Rhoomes.
Fordham enters the game with a 16-12 overall record, 7-10 in the Atlantic 10, and is coming off a 78-69 A-10 win at Duquesne on Wednesday night. Rhode Island enters with a 16-13 overall record, 8-8 in the conference, after a 68-50 league win over Massachusetts at home on Thursday night.
Saturday afternoon's contest will be the 64th meeting between Fordham and Rhode Island on the hardwood. Rhode Island leads the all-time series, which started in the 1941-42 season, 38-25. Rhode Island took this year's first matchup, 79-63, in Kingston on January 27 as Jared Terrell scored a game-high 25 points and Jarvis Garrett added 16 for Rhode Island while
Ryan Rhoomes had 18 points and ten rebounds for Fordham.
Notes• The Rams are looking for their eighth Atlantic 10 win of the year, and their fourth in a row, for the first time since the 2006-2007 (that squad won 10 conference games).
• Fordham senior forward
Ryan Rhoomes has recorded ten double-doubles this year, five in the past six games, the most recent a 15-point, 17-rebound game at Duquesne on Wednesday night. Rhoomes now has 17 career double-doubles and has scored in double figures in 25 of the 28 games this year.
• The 16 wins in 2015-2016 are the most for a Fordham team since the 2006-2007 squad won 18 times.
• Fordham senior forward
Ryan Rhoomes is ranked eighth in the NCAA in field goal percentage, hitting 64.9 percent of his shots (163-251). The school record for single season field goal percentage is .616 by Damon Lopes in 1990-1991.
• Senior guard
Mandell Thomas enters the game with 1,363 career points, 14th on the Fordham all-time scoring list. Thomas is nine points behind Charlie Yelverton (1968-1971) for 13th on the list.
• With his 17 rebounds in the Duquesne game, forward
Ryan Rhoomes brought his career total to 896, good for seventh place on the Fordham career rebounding list. Rhoomes is 21 behind John Stevens (1962-1965) for sixth on the all-time list.
• Fordham head coach
Jeff Neubauer's teams at Eastern Kentucky were well known for their defensive prowess, routinely ranking at the top of the NCAA in steals and his first Fordham team is no different, recording 239 steals in 2015-2016 (8.5/game), second in the Atlantic 10 and tenth in the NCAA. The Rams have recorded ten or more steals in a contest ten times this season. Leading the Rams defense is senior guard
